Only in Miami... or maybe any other large pretentious city

My Dear Friends:

I just got a letter from my family practitioner. Actually it was a large envelope packed with material. What was he sending this material for you may ask? My family practitioner is changing his practice in order for it to become... a "concierge medical service". According to the materials, the "concierge medical practice" is a "patient focused practice" that will allow the physician to return to the days of unhurried visits, house calls, and personally answering the cell phone. The catch is that he is looking for an annual fee of $1500.00. The brochure has all sorts of phrases like boutique practice, concierge service, MDVIP, limited patient enrollment, etc... so essentially I came to the conclusion that what is really going on, is my doctor is weeding out the people that can't (or won't) pay a fifteen hundred dollar annual fee in order to cater to the wealthier clientele. Not a bad gig if you can get it to work.

The best part is that on the website they refer to it as "affordable" health care. Are you kidding me? I hope this guy's (or gal's) Richie Rich patients call him ALL the time, about little tiny aches and pains. The sense of entitlement that will come with a service like this will be enormous!

Compare the news of your family practitioner gave you with this news about the newest reality TV. Scary.

Well, it's not like reality TV is known for being of discriminating standards.
