So they are about to cancel the NHL season. Has anyone missed it? I have an idea for a struggling sport that has a diminishing fan base and lacks a network contract... a messy labor contract that paints both sides as greedy. While you're at it, cancel the season, let's see if that boosts numbers. I'm no economic expert and I don't know a whole lot about the business of owning an NHL franchise, but I do know the sport has been struggling for years and the biggest sticking point of the lock out is whether or not to impose a salary cap. The owners want it, the players don't.

I'm sorry, but I have to side with the owners on this one. If you have a failing business, the last thing you need to do is pay bloated contracts. Salary caps have been proven to be successful. They work in the NFL and NBA. Obviously the NHL players feel that they are getting shafted financially, but I have a hard time believing that these franchise owners are so rolling in dough that they are willing to finish off their already sinking franchises.

It doesn't matter, the NHL was already a mess to begin with, the WNBA looks solid by comparison. I have an idea, instead of cancelling the season, how about you cancel the league.

Seriously - salary caps are the way to go. Up with socialism! :)
