Socialized medicine

A fascinating new take on socialized medicine that I had never considered before! Good stuff.
Up with socialism! :)

Interesting article, but a little misleading I think. My first thought in regards to this article (and the source) is that they are giving VAs too much credit. I'm sure with a little leg work you could find plenty of deficits in the VA system. I say this because, I have had experience with two VAs over the last few years and neither of them are in that great of shape as far as the facilities or the building goes.

What I really don't like about this article is the conclusion that it draws. Even if veterans are receiving superior care (and I'm not going to go too far disputing that), it doesn't mean that government run healthcare will lead to superior treatment for everyone.

Think about it this way. In Gainesville, Florida there are three main hospitals and one VA. I don't know the statistics, but I doubt that Gainesville's veteran population is 25%. The infrastructure is currently in place to provide such superior care for veterans. This article speaks more to the improvement of the VA system of the last decade than an indication of the potential of government run healthcare systems.

I am sure though that there is a good compromise between what we have now and turning the reigns of our hospitals over to the government (which seems to me what the author is implying).
