Big Brother is closer than you think

Texas representative Larry Phillips is introducing a bill that would install mandatory electronic transponders in all state inspected automobiles. The transpoder would contain and transmit information like your VIN and (what the heart of the bill is getting at) your insurance information. A reader would be able to remotely detect if your insurance had expired and you would be mailed a bill for it.

I think people should be very concerned about overly intrusive legislature like this. Any kind of bill with the words mandatory, transmit and information should worry you.

That's crazy go nuts! Maybe we should spend that money on matching insurance companies' lists to our drivers license data. It would be a hell of a lot better and wouldn't violate your civil rights.
