She made Barbarella, for chrissake!

So much effort to get arrested.

It takes a real man to spit on a 67-year old woman. Doesn't this seem a little ridiculous? After all these years, can't they just move on? It just seems a little petty after 37 years to be still wrapped up in this. There are enough real, ongoing issues to deal with that deserve people's attention.

In a similar vein, the text of this article is hilarious. Have you ever seen someone make such a jackass out of himself? State legislators are often the lowest common denominator of a population, in my experience.

So choking your chicken is going to be a felony? Seriously though, I thought the best part about that whole exchange was Altman trying to say that "the reporter already had her story" and that he wanted to offend her. So the moral of the story is that if someone is asking pointed questions just tell them their too dumb to understand the answer and try to offend them. They already have their story anyway!

Now onto the Jane Fonda stuff. Listen... a lot of people still have a seething hatred for Jane Fonda. The only way I can describe it is if I saw some current actress parading around with Iraqi insurgents I would have quite a negative reaction. I didn't support the war in Iraq. However, glorifying the enemy, to me, borders on traitorous (is that a word?). And I do think that sitting on anti-air craft guns used to destroy American Aircrafts and flashing the peace symbol is glorifying the enemy. Now compound that feeling for people who are actually over there fighting the war and you can begin to understand the reaction that some of these vets do.

So now here we have Jane Fonda, divorced from Ted Turner in need of money, so she's going to parade around her book where she dregs up this stuff. I don't blame a vet for holding onto that kind of anger for that long. And if getting spit in her face is the worse thing that happens to her... no great loss.

I want to make it clear though, that if you are a prominent public figure and you want to protest the war and march in the streets of the US (or any other country for that matter) that's fine. I don't think any less of Martin Sheen or Susan Surandon or Sean Penn. But if any one of them were to go hang out with Al-Zarqawi and wave around the saber used to behead civilians... I would have an extremely negative reaction. If I were a vet, I could probably hold onto that for 40 or so years.

I think we're going to have to disagree on this one.
1) Spitting on her with tobacco juice is assault, plain and simple. And after 37 years, I would think you would have the clarity of mind (i.e., you aren't presently enraged) to not do that. I think we should be able to expect that of our veterans.
2) She has apologized for the whole AA gun thing. Veterans want to say that she cost soldiers' lives, but I would love for them to point to one veteran who died as a result of her actions. Sure, what she did is tacky - but is there nothing she can do to make up for it? You would think that veterans would leave her alone when she is marketing the book that includes her apology.
3) I think JF has become a tangible example of what veterans consider their poor treatment when they came home ("babykiller", and all that stuff). So, because they can't spit at hippies in general, they spit on her because they know who she is and where she is.

See... I agree with you in that I would hope that most of these vets would move on, but Jane Fonda is the one being the publicity whore. She's been on Letterman, Larry King, etc bringing up all this stuff in "her new book". Read... I'm out of money. If you are going to go out and promote your book and YOU are going to be the one who brings up these events, I can see how that would rekindle some very hard feelings!

Besides... she just got spit on, it's not like it was that bad. I mean, hell, you libs apparently use this as a pretty commons means of showing your differences to some public figure!
