Conservative Hollywood

I must confess that I haven't seen any of the movies being talked about in this article, but I think the point is well-taken. I'm, in particular, horrified by the storyline of Just Like Heaven, which sounds like it was written up by Pat Robertson (except without any assassinations). It looked good in the previews, but now it sounds pretty terrible to me. Blah.

Hmmm... wait till Rent is released in theaters. Then you'll see some REAL Conservative propoganda.

Ha ha - you have to admit, though, there's a bit of a difference between a movie/musical that promotes understanding of homosexuality and the poor, which is essentially an argument about social relations (liberal, I'll admit), and a movie that claims that the comatose are still sentient, active beings that can fall in love, etc. The first movie is just a modern telling of Puccini's La Boheme, with its timeless themes of poverty and love. The second movie is science fiction (or at least an unprovable hypothesis) masquerading as reality-based love story.

Let me put it this way (sorry, belated thought here): Consider the contemporary politics here. Is Rent drastically affected by the general trend away from homosexual marriage (the hot button issue that it seems to speak to the most)? Not especially. Is Just Like Heaven drastically altered by the fact that Terri Schiavo's brain was mush when they did her autopsy? Yes.

I think there is way too much thought going into this analysis of Just Like Heaven. It sounds to me like a formulaic romantic comedy. It sounds to me a lot like the movie with Nicholas Cage... I can't remember the exact title, but something like City of Angels. Or Ghost.

Anyway, movies shouldn't be released unless they star either The Rock or Christopher Walken.

Have they ever made a movie together? I get a co-producer credit!
